Layering Data

'Stacked Graphs' - Martin Wattenberg & Lee Byron

Martin Wattenburg shows a graph that displays multiple layers of data simultaneously. Aside from being aesthetically interesting it might bear some resemblance to the ‘termite-mound’ landscapes that I will be creating based on real-time datasets.

“This paper describes the design decisions and algorithms behind these graphics, and discusses the reaction on the Web. We suggest that this type of complex layered graph is effective for displaying large data sets to a mass audience.”
