Sketch: Peristalsis Roots

Diagram showing multi-textured and multi-coloured tower rising up from the ground, provided with substrate by its peristalsis root system

The tube grows up from a supported platform. At the base of the platform is a reservoir of substrate, and connected to this reservoir are a network of roots which contain a supply of each variety of substrate – tints, textures etc.

Each ‘root’ is a flexible plastic tube with a peristalsis device attached to it, the peristalsis action squeezes substrate into the reservoir whenever it is required.

The print-head draws its material from the reservoir at the base of the tower. The materials are mixed in this reservoir.
